Introduction to Civil Aviation
Standard Learning Credit (SLC) can be used for the course Introduction to Civil Aviation at Moray Flying Club, RAF Lossiemouth.
First step is to contact the Learning Centre to register for your SLC after which you then book and pay for your flying at MFC. Having completed the course, you then reclaim your £175 SLC!
Introduction to Civil Aviation
Take control of our 2-seat dual control Pipistrel Virus 121SW light aircraft in a Trial Lesson with our Qualified Flying Instructor. Whether you are pondering a future in aviation or contemplating learning to fly for recreational purposes, this first taste of flying is bound to whet your appetite for more! Even if it is simply one thing on your bucket list that you have to experience, then this may be the best gift you have bought for yourself.
Flight 1
Your Air Experience Flight will start with a briefing by the Flying Instructor (FI) covering all safety requirements and familiarisation of the aircraft and controls.
Once in the aircraft, FI will talk you through take off procedures leading to your departure from Lossiemouth before heading to a Local Training Area where you will experience flying the aircraft under his/her guidance.
Flight 2
Experience flying under electric power in our Velis Electro Pipistrel 128SW battery powered aircraft. An environmentally friendly, low cost alternative training aircraft to the 121SW. You will be amazed at what can be achieved during electric flight!
Air Experience Flights also referred to as Trial Lessons are training flights and may count as training time towards a course of pilot training, so this may the first step on your way to gaining a Pilot Licence!

The MOD's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme is an initiative to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. Serving and retired members of HM Armed Forces must have joined the scheme and have accumulated enough eligible service before making a claim (see the ELCAS website for details).
The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years. ELCs are available in two tiers: the Lower Tier has a level of up to £1,000 per annum and the Upper Tier a level of up to £2,000 per annum. The Scheme is based upon the principle that individuals will make a personal contribution toward the cost of their learning. The ELC contribution may be up to 80% of the gross course value. The ELC funds can only be used for Tuition and examination costs. Applicants are responsible for paying for study materials, equipment, food, accommodation, travel and subsistence whilst attending any course.
Moray Flying Club is an Approved Learning Provider (No 1155) under the ELC Scheme for those wishing to train for either the UK National Private Pilots licence (NPPL) or for the UK Part-FCL Private Pilot licence. You can now do your PPL or NPPL in one go or in modular format, as well as SEP (Land) rating renewal IMC rating, so good news all round.
The ELC website contains guidance with regard to applying for Scheme Membership and subsequently claiming an ELC. However, before submitting an application or claim for an ELC, those interested should refer to their Unit Training Development (TD) staff and to DCI JS 30/04 'The Enhanced Learning Credit Scheme - Sponsorship of Service Personnel for Personal Development'. It is essential that they do this in order to obtain a full understanding of the eligibility criteria.
The Enhanced Learning Credits Administration Service (ELCAS) provide the administrative support for the ELC Scheme. Unit TD staff are, however, responsible for approval of ELC Applications and Claims and all completed forms should therefore be submitted to your TD staff who will check and forward the forms to ELCAS.
